Leon M. Smith
Mr. Leon M. Smith II has established himself as a scientist, entrepreneur, leader, and mentor. Mr. Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (Biochemistry) from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters of Science degree in chemistry (Organic Chemistry) from Tennessee State University. While at CAU, he was initiated into the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Psi Chapter). Professionally, he is an accomplished medicinal chemist and has participated in drug discovery across multiple therapeutic areas, including CNS, metabolic diseases, oncology, and cardiovascular disease areas. He is a contributor to 40+ patents and peer-reviewed publications, of which, he is the primary author/inventor of several. Furthermore, he has directly contributed to three small molecules progressing into human Phase I-III clinical studies. Currently, he is the Basileus of Omicron Chi Chapter. Under his leadership, the OX Chapter has been recognized as the 2014-15 International Graduate Chapter of the Year (Division II) and 2015-16 Second District Large Graduate Chapter of the Year. Mr. Smith is a co-founder of InSpira Performing Arts and is a member The American Chemical Society, CAU Alumni Association, New Jersey Chapter (Vice-President), and First Baptist At Lincoln Garden. Leon has received numerous awards and recognition for his impact in the Central New Jersey community.
